Why Sephora’s attempt to recognize employees fell short:

Some research has shown that recognizing workers with monetary compensation isn’t particularly motivating; a 2012 paper published in the American Economic Review even found employees were more productive after receiving a gift (in this case, a thermos bottle) than after they were given a wage increase.

For context, Sephora gave employees a cookie when it hit 10 billion in revenue. HR Brew thinks they should’ve went with checks notes a Thermos bottle.

My siblings in Christ, it’s all bullshit. All of it. Resist. Rebel. Be subversive.
